PENULTIMATE YEAR STUDENTS HOLD ATHLETICS-EVENT IN CRAWFORD UNIVERSITY

On Saturday, 12th December 2015, The Penultimate Year Students of Crawford University under the aegis of a group called THE ADVOCATES, held an extra-curricular event for the students. The event, which was mainly held on the school’s main soccer field, featured different types of activities which were fully participated in by the penultimate year students and other students of the institution. Activities like relay races, a marathon race, tugs of war, drinking competition amongst others were fully organized and students from different departments, and colleges participated in these activities. The purpose of this event according to the Coordinator of the event, Moh-Ebuka (Economics Dept), was to harmonize the penultimate year students and inculcate into them, a sense of collective belonging and a spirit of mutual love for each other. This, in the long run, after four years in the school, would lead the students to a point of self actualization which would generate a fulfilling feeling amongst and within the students.

The marathon race kick started the event, starting at 6:15 a.m. The Racers in this race were about 20 in number with about 3 of them being girls. The race started exactly in front of the male hostel, took them through the bank region to the side of the Multi-Purpose Hall, through the cafeteria and ended in front of the Male Hostel. The Race was a 5-lap thing and at the end, Paul Nmadu Jiya (Political Science dept), won the race. He beat the likes of Ekpe, Jamiu, Aderopo and others to the coveted prize of the First Marathon Race Winner in Crawford University. The Runner-up was Kemi (Micro-Biology), as she won the female category of the Marathon Race

The Relay Race was the next event which was held on the Main field of the school. There was 100 meters race for the male and female category and also there was the 4 by 400 meters relay race. The winners for the female category are Rebecca (Accounting dept) and Olaide (Sociology). For the male category, the winners are Joe Aboh (Computer Science Dept) and AY-Benson (Geology).  In the tug of war, for the female category, Kemi Kukoyi (Accounting Dept) won while for the male category, Beulah Nweze (Computer Science Dept) won. In the drinking competition, different students won as there were different rounds of the competition.

Whilst presenting prizes and certificates of participation to the winners of the different events, Moh-Ebuka, expressed gratitude and appreciation to the students who turned up for the event. He also briefed the students on the aims and objectives of “THE ADVOCATES” as a movement within the Penultimate year students and indirectly, within the entirety of Crawford University. He gave a vote of thanks and the event was officially closed about 8 a.m. in the morning.
