Very Funny! Private Universities in Nigeria Called Advance secondary schools

Image
As Nigerians i bet we are familiar with “Advance secondary schools” otherwise known as Private Universities and there are so many out there from church owners to politicians and rich individuals. Well when i was leaving the normal secondary school, I can remember them saying university is a big world unlike secondary school nobody wakes you up, nobody forces you to school, nobody begs you to submit assignments, that it is like a world outside without anybody guiding you, it is where you gonna choose between good and bad. I don’t think i need to go into the good and bad, ranging from cultists to pastors. Then deciding the University you wanna go to you decided to choose the private one because when they say its 4 years its 4years, if public or federal uni says 4 years well 5 years is very sure, aside that the way of life of a private university is like an advance secondary with so many rules, lemme call out some rules for you guys according to what i have heard and what i know. 1a

JAMB Is Enough, Post UTME Tests Are Against The Law — Prof. Peter Okebukola

Image
Professor Peter Okebukola, a former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC) ( Pro-chancellor of crawford university, igbesa)       -It is not legal for Universities to organise post UTME tests for applicants   It is an illegal act for universities to organise post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) tests for prospective students. Professor Peter Okebukola , a former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), stated this while delivering a lecture at Osun State University (OSU), Osogbo. He said the practice of subjecting students to rigorous examinations after writing the UTME organised by the Joint Admission And Matriculation Board is against the law. The Universities can only make the students write essay and use the avenue to see and interact with their prospective students but the universities have deviated and turned the post UTME test to another examination after the students had written th

COVENANT UNIVERSITY I still wonder why our parents still rush students to Covenant University, yes they got good infrastructures, state of the art Library, Holy Spirit filled Chancellor, but it really isn’t about that. Why would an Higher Institution in the 21 st century deny her students of the free use of mobile phones, why would they derive pleasure in suspending and expelling students at the least offence, there is also the gist of Virginity test and HIV/AIDS test. Female students are not even allowed to hold hands with the opposite sex in the evening time, no wonder most of their students try to have the best of fun they can have at any slight opportunity. Is this not another glorified Christian secondary school, but still parents and students alike rush into this institution and get rushed out by their awkward rules and regulations. GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

Image
There is no gainsaying the fact that federal government through its National Universities Commission(NUC) is doing its best by way of checks and balances, effective supervision and quality control of all universities in Nigeria particularly the private ones. However, there is need for federal government to ensure adequate support for education in private universities. It must be mentioned here that several of the private universities in Nigeria are not established for profit-making but to give students sound moral education which will bring about the fear of God and good society. A typical example is that of Crescent University, Abeokuta, with the vision and mission of sound education, good moral upbringing and the service to God, Almighty. We are also to ensure that the university has a national outlook. Hence, there is no state in the university that is not represented in the university in terms of students. There are those with scholarship awards from Northern and

IMAGINE: 6 reasons you shouldn’t attend a private university

Image
Many Nigerian students these days often move quickly to queue for private universities when making a choice of institution. I agree that private universities have advantages like the absence of strike, easy access to lecturers… Well, that’s about all. Public universities, federal and state, have a lot of advantages, from cheaper school fees, to the freedom to be an adult. Public universities expose you to the real world, introduces you to the hustle of life unlike private universities that consist of a lot of brats who are literally spoon-fed. They are so pampered, making difficult to face the real world when they become graduates. So here’s my case for choosing a public university. 1. Public universities allow for freedom and independence: Students in public universities enjoy the freedom to make decisions for themselves and learn to be almost independent. Private universities keep students within the four walls of their campuses and under certain rules more suited for teenagers

What Oyedepo has to say about tuition fees charged by private universities  Bishop Oyedepo -founnder of Covenant University    oyedepo The founder of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, has defended the tuition fees charged by schools owned by the church, describing the provision of quality education as an expensive venture. Oyedepo said this while addressing journalists on Friday in Ota, Ogun State, at a media chat organised in commemoration of his 60th birthday coming up on September 27, 2014. Private schools in the country, including Covenant and Landmark universities, owned by the church are often criticised for being too expensive for average Nigerians to afford.
