Misplaced Values or What? Trending Topics from Female Students of Nigerian Private Universities

How do we make sense out of this? What reasons could justify such an act?
When I first heard the news of a female student of Igbenidion University, Beninwho stabbed another student with a pair of scissors seven times during a fight, I disbelieved it. It couldn’t be true. These were girls for Christ’s sake and female students too. And not just students from any institution, Igbenidion Universty. Why would they fight and resort to stabbing over a shirt?
But sadly, it was true.
The friendship between two girls, Hope Amadi and Chioma Onyeagwe went sour after Hope borrowed Chioma’s shirt and refused to return it for many days. When Chioma asked for her shirt back on Tuesday June 5th, Hope allegedly became extremely aggressive and the two girls got into serious argument. Then a fight ensued. Witnesses say Hope Amadi picked up scissors from their room and stabbed Chioma seven times on the neck, arm and other places. Chioma was rushed to the Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, where doctors reported that Chioma was stabbed on her artery, and that if she hadn’t been rushed to the hospital when she was, she would have died. Chioma is presently in the hospital receiving treatment for her near fatal wounds. Hope Amadi has been suspended from school.

I ask again, what could have resorted to picking up a pair of scissors and stabbing a friend over a shirt? Lust for materialism, misplaced values, lack of moral values, anger? I can’t place my finger on any justifiable reason.
Another news going viral online is the expulsion of a final year student of Convenant University, Ota for lesbianism.
According to news reports, the University authorities of Covenant University, Canaanland Ota in Ogun state, said that the 22 year-old student’s activities and unquenchable desire for other ladies was disturbing and embarrassing to the University. The University Administration officer said he regrets the decision but said that sexual orientation and exploits does not give a Faith based University like Covenant University a good name.
If the allegations were true, I wouldn’t have expected anything less from the authorities of Convenant University. But then again, I can’t brush off the thought that the girl may not have been mete with such a penalty if she was a student of a government-owned University.
How do you feel about these events in separate private Universities in the country? What penalties do you think are fair enough for the students? Do you think the news would put a dent in the reputation of the institutions? What reasons could justify the act of stabbing a fellow student?
Please share your thoughts.
