CSPC HOSTED BY UCJ FUNAAB TO PRESS SUMMIT.



Wednesday 3rd August witnessed the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta host different stakeholders to the Press Summit of the Union of Campus Journalists, FUNAAB Chapter. The Summit was part of a weeklong series of activities held by the FUNAAB Chapter of UCJ in celebration of its Annual week in the university. It was held in the Postgraduate Building of the University.

Themed “The Role of the Media in National Development: A fight against Corruption and Unemployment”, the summit was attended members from the Crawford University Press Club, RockCity Media Group, Various Campus Bloggers, Freelance Writers, Mapoly Press, FUNAAB Radio, Iwe Irohin Newspapers etc.

Speaking at the summit, Prof Helen Bodunde who is the Head of Department, Communications and General Studies FUNAAB counseled the participants on the ethics of Journalism especially in this century. She said “Every journalist who aims to be relevant in this age must have a concrete grasp of the 6 basic Journalism skills which are Speaking, Presentation, Listening, Reading, Writing and Inter-personal skills. You must develop these skills effectively of which failure to do so will just kill your dream and aspirations without warning”.



Mr. Ayo Arowojolu, the Director of FUNAAB radio was also a speaker at the summit. He spoke on the Evolution of Journalism in this contemporary time. Citing CAMPUSLIFE segment of The-Nation Newspaper as an example, he said that newspapers in Nigeria have given campus journalism a boost by allocating a segment for campus journalists to showcase their skills and talents thereby developing their careers in the process. He urged the participants to embrace this opportunity in their quest to be reckoned with in the art and practice of journalism.

He reiterated the essence of the technological evolution as critical to modern journalism in the country as well as emerging journalists.  According to him “You cannot afford to remain analogue in this digital world that we live in, You develop yourself, open blogs, write consistently, send out your write-ups to media tabloids and that is how your career development would start”.



Other speakers at the summit were Mr. Razaq Ayinla, an ace Journalist /Media Correspondent and Mr. Toyyib Adeyemo, President UCJ-FUNAAB.
