CRU DEPARTMENTALS KICK OFF WITH EARLY WINS FOR NUASA, NABAMS AND GEMSSA

The Crawford Departmental Games kicked off last weekend with Games involving NABAMS, GEMSSA, NUASA amongst others. It began on Friday begun with a football match between NUASA (Nigerian Universities Association of Accounting students) and NACOSS (National Association of Computer Science Students). Donning yellow shorts on yellow tops, the NACOSS team lined up players like Joe, Ovo, Apreh, Osas and the rest while the NUASA team putting on red shorts and tops paraded players like Precious, Christian, Brown, Hakeem, Dele etc.

The referee was a certain Mr. SEUN (a staff in the Parents Forum Office), with Paul and Cool Joe filing in as the linesmen for the match. The captains for the sides were Osas and Hakeem for NACOSS and NUASA respectively. Kicking off at exactly 5:20 pm, the match was uninteresting at first with wrong tackles, misplaced passes and slow movements filing up the first 10 minutes. Progressing as far as the 30th minute, there was no major highlight or talking points. Boring is the perfect word to use here!

The first goal came in the 40th minute when a counter attack was staged and rightly executed by the NUASA team. HAKEEM (400L) was the goal scorer as he capitalized on a defense error by Jegede (NACOSS) to score the opening goal for NUASA. The second half was filled with more action from both sides as NACOSS looked to get back into the game while NUASA were rightly frustrating NACOSS efforts. A brief moment of madness from both teams was recorded in the 60th minute when Christian (NUASA) was involved in a bust-up with Apreh(NACOSS); five minutes later, Osas (NACOSS) was seen arguing with his teammate (Apreh). Follow-ups on these were the brandishing of cards to about 4 players from both sides.

NACOSS equalized in the 75th minute from a beautifully-taken and perfectly executed free-kick by Ovoh (300L); this was unarguably the goal of the match! Tense moments followed this goal as both teams were involved in different forms of deadly tacking, rough playing and unabashed kicking. Perhaps the highlight of this period was the rescinding of a red-card which was previously given to a certain Chris Mufasa (NUASA) following a second yellow card from a rough tackle. Usually, Chris was supposed to leave the field, but Surprisingly, He remained on the field! Apparently, it was discovered that he was never yellowcarded for the first offence!

Bizarre!!! Strange!!Questionabe!!!

But, what do I know????????

The Heartbreak for NACOSS came in the 80th minute when a defensive error led to a certain Singer (100L) score the winning goal for NUASA. A well deserved goal, yet avoidable one, only if Jegede and Kola had not been AWOL at the heart of the defence for NACOSS. The match ended with NUASA grabbing the first 3 points of the competition.

Man of the Match: Ovoh (NACOSS)
Flop of the Match: Jegede (NACOSS)

In other matches, NABAMS defeated NESA by 2 goals to 1 with goals coming from Wale and Sofoluwe. The match was a fair one as both teams were evenly matched. As against the previous Day’s game between NUASA and NACOSS, this match was peaceful, fair, devoid of rough tackles and extra-physical foot-balling. The Man of the Match was Baba Jay as his midfield artistry and excellence was pivotal to NABAMS victory.

The last match of the week was between GEMSSA (Geology and Mineral Sciences Students Association) and IREPSA (Industrial Relations and Personnel Management Students Association). The match ended in favour of GEMSSA. They won by 2 goals to 1. The Stars that shined in the match were AY Benson, Cool Joe and Josh and Solomon for GEMSSA. Scido was virtually the Man of the Match for IREPSA. The Flops of the Match was Michael Fadire, the goal keeper for IREPSA, as two crucial mistakes of his were what led to the goals scored by GEMSSA. At the end of the match, GEMSSA won by 2 goals to 1, with Cool Joe and Solomon scoring for GEMSSA while, Harryson scored the only goal for IREPSA
Man of the Match for GEMSSA………………………..Solomon (Unquestionable)!!!!!!!!!
