IT CONFERENCE FOR NACOSSITES


 
The National Association of Computer Science Students, Crawford University Chapter (NACOSS) held a conference on Thursday, 14th May 2015. The conference which was part of the association’s scheduled programmes for its ongoing Associational Week was themed “Embracing 21st century innovation in Nigeria: An entrepreneurship perspective”. It was held at the school’s multi-purpose hall and was supported by Crawford University, NACOSS and other sponsors.
The event started at 12 pm with the introduction and invitation of invited guests. This was followed by a video presentation which ushered in immediately, the first Invited Speaker, Mr Koyejo Osho. He is the CEO of Chronicles Software development company Limited. He spoke extensively on the importance of entrepreneurship in information technology. Citing himself as an example, he illustrated how being an entrepreneur has helped elevate him from the shackles of immiseration to the pinnacles of prosperity. He admonished the students to embrace entrepreneurship in their future academic furtherance; “Relieve in the beauty of your dreams before they come to pass” He concluded.
Another speaker at the event was Mr. Damilola Kolawole, the Founder of Geospatial Training Institute. He spoke on the Information Technology world and its challenges and how solutions can be developed. He highlighted three (3) basic essentials as necessary factors for solutions to be provided. Solutions; System and Strategy are the three Ss that must be properly strategized for innovations to take place, He asserted. “Opportunity comes everyday but it only stays with those who choose to embrace it; Also, it takes a thoughtful mind to generate a great idea” He concluded.
An inter-departmental debate competition was also held at the event. The debate which came after the conference was based on the topic “ICT IS THE BEDROCK OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP GROWTH IN NIGERIA” was keenly debated between six (6) departments from the College Of Business and Social Sciences and The College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The departments include; Geology and Mineral Sciences, Accounting, Computer Science, Political Science, Physics and electronics and Microbiology. Political Science and International Relations Department came first at the end of the debate.
Before the event, NACOSS had elected a new set of executives for the new session with Jegede Samuel emerging the new president of the department.
