CRAWFORD UNIVERSITY’S VICE-CHANCELLOR HOLDS FIRST MEETING WITH STUDENTS


The new Vice Chancellor of Crawford University, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi Issac has met with the students of Crawford University in his first official meeting with the students. This meeting held on 2nd November 2015 at the University’s Multi-purpose hall. The vice chancellor arrived at the venue at 4:30 pm and he was flanked by the Registrar of the institution Mr. Tunde Oluite Adekoya: the deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Patrick Yalokwu. Also present at the meeting were the acting bursar, Mrs. Kemi Ojo, the Deans of the Business and Social Sciences and also the Natural and Applied Sciences, Prof. Alaba simpson and Dr. Oludotun respectively. The Dean of Students’ affairs, Dr. Bartholomew Onyekwere was present and also, the Chief Security Officer of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Akingbade.
In his keynote speech, The Vice Chancellor praised all the students for their utmost adherence to the meeting and also welcomed them to the new academic session. He assured them that the university is poised to help all the students in achieving their academic dreams and he reiterated the goal of the university i.e. knowledge with godliness. He thanked the members of the academic staff as well as the non-academic staff for their collective efforts in ensuring a smooth running/administration of the school in their respective capabilities.
The Vice Chancellor made certain promises to the students and they include: the institutionalization of a student-centre philosophy with the major priority of students-welfarism; the uplifting of the university into the waters of academic institutions in the nation and also the upgrading of certain facilities in the school. Amidst this promises, he endeared the students to be law-abiding, focused, polite and meticulous in their doings throughout their stay in the school.
He repeatedly warned the students against continued atrocious behavior, cultism, gangsterism, violence, in-campus fighting, drug abuse, indecency and other acts that negate the motto of the institution. He promised heavy and immediate sanctions to students who are caught in this web of rules flouting. He also pleaded with the students to conduct themselves in the most appropriate manner in the church during the compulsory weekly programmes. He noted that sanctions would be meted out to erring students and they would be heavily pronounced.
The Vice Chancellor announced that Crawford University would host this year’s International Student Day Conference which would come up on 17th November. He observed that this conference to be held in the school is a feat achieved by the school in its stead to be recognized amongst other private and public institutions in the nation.
He concluded by assuring the students of his love for them and he reminded them of his dedication to the school. In his words: “I love all of you, thank you and God bless you all”.
After the Vice Chancellor’s speech, there were comments and questions from the students. The Chairman of the Students Executive Council (SEC), Femi Ololade(400L Economics), assured the Vice-Chancellor of his council’s dedication to his administration and he promised him that they are ready to help him in all aspects. Also, the president of the Crawford University Press club (CSPC), Victoria Ugbor (400L Accounting) thanked the Vice-Chancellor for meeting with the students. She also promised the Vice Chancellor that the Press club is ready to help him in his administration. Other students also asked several questions and the vice chancellor replied with absolute meticulous and reassuring answers to these questions.
The Registrar of the school Mr. Tunde Oluite Adekoya gave a closing speech where he appreciated the students for their cooperation and he was optimistic of a futuristic rancor-free relationship between the students and the school’s administration.
A vote of thanks was given by the Dean of Students affairs, Dr. Onyekwere and the meeting was concluded
