Nigerian Private Universities Announces 3rd Semester – NUC Condemns Act Nigerian Private Universities Announces 3rd Semester

Latest Nigerian university news reaching the cru campus blog  today, is that the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie have condemn private universities in Nigeria for the introduction of 3rd (third) semester programme in their academic calendars as against the two semester system, which have been approved by the National University commission.

This information was disclosed at a meeting with vice-chancellors and registrars of private universities in Abuja, and while speaking at the meeting, Professor Okojie said this new system was alien to the nation’s education system and it would not be condoned by the commission.

He stressed that “this is erosion to the university tradition” and against Nigeria educational sector.

According to the executive secretary, who said that the commission would soon conduct a census of all professional programmes in the Nigerian university system with a view to identifying institutions running unapproved programmes and will close the course(s)

It did not even stop them, as the secretary also went forward, to condemn the award of honorary degrees by some universities in Nigeria when hosting their matriculation ceremonies, Professor Okojie said that though NUC is the statutory accrediting body of programmes in the nation’s universities, professional bodies were expected to compliment the efforts of the commission by ensuring that conflicting results were not issued and academic calendars were not frequently disrupted.

More details coming soon.

Word of Advice:

Please all students who are studying in any academic institutions in Nigeria and are still doubting if the course is accredited by NUC should do a thorough research, so as not to get evicted out of the school after spending so much efforts, money and most especially, time.
